You could make a movie out of almost any Blue Oyster Cult song. From the very beginning their music and lyrics are layered in conflict and mystery, daring listeners to draw conclusions about what they were listening to. Here is my conclusion about the "ETI: Extra Terrestrial Intelligence" from 1976's "Agents of Fortune." Why this song never became a rock standard is beyond my reckoning, because it's an all-time classic. After trying (and failing) to figure out how to encapsulate the song's lyrics into a single movie, I slwoly wandered toward a better model ... the lyrics create a connective tissue between everything from flying saucers and the "Men in Black" phenomenon to faerie, the nativity and Robert Chambers' fictional play "The King in Yellow." While not all of these made it into the final design, at least I avoided the obvious homages to Close Encounters and The X-Files.
